Thanks for your kind message, Kelly. I apologize for not making it very clear in my story. I understand that the editing/publishing process on Medium can be complex and odd. I should have provided more context.
The issue at hand is a long-term bug in Medium's system that prevents new editors from publishing more than 15 stories from the publishing queue. This limitation is intended to stop a single writer from spamming the platform, which is good. However, the system mistakenly identifies the new editor as a writer, thinking they are publishing their own stories instead of those submitted by other contributors.
Some of our volunteer editors are retired individuals who donate their time by editing stories from new writers contributing to our publications. We have 31K writers contributing to our pub, but Medium restricts us to a maximum of 30 editors per pub. Sometimes, we receive up to 1000 drafts, meaning each volunteer editor needs to publish at least 30 drafts daily to prevent a backlog. The bug complicates this 30-editor restriction because if they are limited to publishing only 15 stories within 24 hours, we theoretically accumulate a backlog of 500 stories.
However, the good news is that this bug does not affect all editors, only the new ones. My point is that if Medium allows 50 editors for large publications like Illumination, this issue caused by a 5-year-old bug could be resolved.
