I agree with your observation that many writers, including myself, have experienced changes in the nature of viral or trending stories on Medium.

As a publication owner, I closely monitor the performance of our contributors and work with data scientists to analyze the stats. One of the trends we've noticed is that the type of content going viral has shifted significantly.

In the past, high-quality stories with a significant impact on society would quickly go viral on Medium. However, since November, we've seen a surge in articles about digital marketing, freelancing, top websites, best YouTube videos, and quick schemes for earning money, dominating our publication's trend list.

Some of our avid readers are understandably upset and believe that our editors are featuring these stories, but it's actually the Medium algorithm that's hijacking our featured list and placing them at the top of the list. I will write about it soon with evidence. as our readers are unhappy. Some readers just stopped their subscriptions.

I hope Medium changes this risky strategy as our readers subscribe to our publications and Medium to read high-quality, impactful stories that reflect real-life experiences.

While I'm not against other types of content, as I enjoy diversity, inclusion, and collaboration among writers, it's vital to strike a balance and recognize impactful content for Medium to survive.

Thank you for sharing your experience, and I hope your insightful stories find the readership they deserve.
