Hi Sherry. I enjoyed reading this engaging story. As usual, I admire your storytelling skills. Trying to guess the owner of the publication and reading the context in your extract, I believe “the wounded mentor” does not refer to you. Probably, the owner means his/her mentor as another publication owner whose successful publication was criticized in the past and advising the publication owner to take corrective actions. If I were the publication owner that you refer to, I would do the same thing. For example, if a writer characterizes my publication writers as “crap”, whatever the perceived quality is, I would have chosen the same action. It is excellent to give uplifting comments to writers to improve the quality in this collaborative platform, but it is not an acceptable notion to call them “crap”. Every writer is a human being with feelings and real-life challenges. Making language mistakes is not a crime but a skill which requires improvement. No one was born as an accomplished writer; we all learn by making mistakes.
