Hi Diana, great to hear from you. If you want to know more about your hormone levels, it will be great to talk to a family doctor first. They can order essential hormone tests based on their observations and diagnosis of hormone-related conditions, such as metabolic disorders. All the hormones mentioned in this post are testable in some ways.

However, family doctors may not think of checking our hormones unless they suspect a serious issue, such as type II diabetes, cardiovascular disease, chronic stress/inflammation, or fatigue. In that case, they may refer us to an endocrinologist, a hormone specialist who can order more in-depth and specialized tests.

So, how can we ensure that our family doctor pays attention to our hormonal profile? One way is to ask them specific questions about our hormones and how they affect our health and well-being. For example, we can say:

• “How about my thyroid? I’m feeling sluggish lately.”

• “How about my growth hormone? I’m gaining unexpected weight.”

• “How about my cortisol? I’m feeling overstressed.”

By asking these simple questions, we can help our family physicians to focus on our hormones and to consider ordering some tests for them. This is what I did, and it worked for me. It also worked for many of my friends and loved ones.

Let's keep in mind that our family doctors are very busy and have to serve many people. By being proactive and curious about our hormones, we can help them to help us better.

In neurodegenerative disorders like MS, in your case, checking insulin and cortisol is critical. I know neurologists have many detailed and sophisticated tests for these types of conditions. So a referral to such a specialist can empower you for protective health.

I wish you the best in your health journey. Thank you for readin and commenting.
